Not the best, just BETTER*

A person with a surprised expression, wearing a hood and beanie, standing by a waterfront with boats. There are mountains and city lights in the background, under a twilight sky.

A travel day stop-off in Annecy. Always nice to end up in a scenic spot when you can!

If you’re in touch with BETTER Touring, the chances are it’ll be with me - Phil! I’ve been working in live music - as a driver, tour manager, merch vendor/manager and occasionally a backline tech - for a decade. I’ve worked everywhere from thirty-cap venues up to stadiums and I’ve driven more than half a million miles around the UK and Europe.

In that time, I’ve been in a lot of other people’s band vans, I realised there were small ways that all of them could be improved - in design, comfort, cleanliness, or affordability - and in 2022, I built Vangelina with all of those things in mind. The idea was to create a space where artists and crew can relax and enjoy their time on the road. That’s what BETTER Touring’s about really: on the road, we’re there to make everything around the performance run smoothly, so that everyone else can be fresh and ready to go to work on stage when the time comes.

In 2026, the operation expanded to four vans, and all are available either with one of our team of excellent drivers, or as a dry hire vehicle. We have bases in Leeds and London at the moment, but can deliver a van and provide crew anywhere in the UK or Europe.

As well as providing vans, we’re pretty good at putting together plans and finding ways to get things done - whether that’s advancing a whole European tour, working with other trusted hire companies, vendors and agents, or preparing customs paperwork. We’re really good at coming up with ways to get things done when plans don’t work out quite like you expected, too!

Getting recognition for being good at what you do is always nice, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a big motivator for most people working in music. For me, it’s not about trying to be “the best” - it’s more about getting out into the world, building relationships and being part of something that makes a lot of people happy.

There are always ways to be better though, so that’s what I aim for. Better planning, better communication, better environments, better driving, a better time for everyone.
